Christian translator fell victim of Indonesian conflicts.
A Christian civil fell victim between the fights of west-Papua fighters and Indonesian military.
A Pastor of the Indonesian Evangelic Church was found dead after conflicts between the
Indonesian military and west-Papuan independence fighters – according to UCA News report.
Pastor Yerimiya Zanambani’s mortal remains were found in an animal farm near to his house.
He was a pastor of the Moni community and also worked helping people in need.
Additionally, he translated the Bible to local tribal languages – including the Moni language.
The circumstances of the death of Pastor Zanambani are still unclear. Gusti Suriyastawa, a
colonel of the Indonesian army suggests that the independence fighters killed him; Timotius
Miyagoni, another pastor of the Moni community said that the late pastor’s wife witnessed the
shots by the military that caused her husband’s death – this is according to Shrouro.com.
Father John Djunga, Pastor of the Papuan Jayapura parish, told UCA: “The tragedy occurred
during a military operation, two days afterwards, that two soldiers were killed by the
independence fighters.”
Last summer, western-Papua started a protest in the city of Fakfak for equal treatment from
the central government that lasted several days. In response, Jakarta sent 1,200 soldiers to the
locations of the protests, to calm down the riots – and to cut off the internet connection.
