ISIS has attacked the Nigerian governors’ convoy who is a Christian sympathiser
ISIS related groups and Boko Haram continues to terrorize officials on the government level.
Armed forces connected to the ISIS jihadist terror group ambushed the convoy of the governor of the Nigerian state, Borno and killed fifteen men – according to news agency reports on the 26th of September morning.
Throughout the ambush eight policemen, three soldiers and four of the government loyalist militants lost their lives. Still, Babagana Umara Zulum governor of Borno was unharmed after the attack on the evening of 25th of September- says the MTI report.
The terrorists orchestrated the attack with machineguns and grenade launchers. This occurred when the convoy passed through a village located at the northeast Borno State, not far from the headquarters of the joint Nigerian, Nigerien, Chadian and Cameroonian forces base camp. The governor was subsequentially evacuated to Monguno city.
Babagana Umara Zulum got his diploma at the Ibadai University as an agricultural engineer, and then gained his doctorate in Maidiguri University on soil- and water engineering. After that, he became a faculty assistant and finally was made professor. In March of 2019, he won the elections in Borno State. The Nigerian Muslim politician believes in peaceful co-existence between faiths and therefore became a target of radical Islamists. Two months ago, a similar ambush took place against the convoy of the governor.
In Borno state, there are two terror groups: Boko Haram its defectors — the so-called Western African Islamic Organisation (ISWAP).
ISWAP has connections with ISIS and has carried out several attacks against the Nigerian army, killing hundreds, other sources suggest thousands, of soldiers.
The violence in Nigeria has resulted in 36,000 causalities since 2009.
