Iran: Christian man was almost sent back to prison, some months after his release
Ebrahim Firouzi was accused of propaganda against the State and was almost condemned to another year of prison.
In October of 2019, Ebrahim Firouzi, a Christian leader in Iran, was released from prison and sent to spend his two-year-long exile in the city of Sarbaz, at Iran’s border with Pakistan. But in March, his punishment was extended by eleven months, because, according to the court, he was not filing the document that proved his presence in the town regularly, and did not respect the local regulations.
Therefore, in September, the Christian man was summoned to the court of Rask, accused of “propaganda against the State”. If he had been found guilty, he would have been condemned to three to twelve months of prison. According to the Article18 site, this process was set at rest, because the court did not have enough evidence against the Christian man.
Ebrahim Firouzi has constantly faced juridical processes since 2013, with accusations, such as propaganda against the regime, and organisation of Christian meetings.
