The Church in Somalia is growing, despite radical Islamism and the spreading of COVID-19
Somalia is ranked third on Open Doors' world watch list of Christian persecution. 99% of the population of the African country is Muslim, and the local Christians have to face difficult challenges in their everyday lives. Among other things, Christians are also blamed for spreading the coronavirus.
Despite the recent challenges, a report from Open Doors by a local pastor revealed that the Christian Church in Somalia is stronger than ever. More and more Muslims are converting to Christianity, even though leaving the Islamic religion is one of the major sins in the eye of the followers of Muhammad.
The pastor, whose name was not published for security reasons, said that one of their most significant roles in the mission is to provide theological education for the newly converted, thus permitting them to spread the teaching of Jesus among their people.
With this in mind, they have launched a two-year certificate course on theological formation. The pastor hopes that thanks to this qualification, there will be more religious leaders in the area, as fewer missionaries are coming to the country, due to the religious persecution.
