Will COVID-19 be used as a pretext to close down churches after the pandemic?

The US Department of State warns that governments in some countries may use the coronavirus pandemic to close churches and other places of worship. The campaign to protect citizens' health may soon be transformed into a weapon in the fight against religion.
This is sensible to Sam Brownback, the American extraordinary ambassador for religious freedom, pointing out that such conclusions can be drawn from the very radical restrictions on religious institutions introduced during the pandemic. At the same time, he reminds us that in many countries believers were even stigmatised and openly accused of spreading coronavirus.
Regretting this situation, Sam Brownback said that what we now experience could be a foretaste of what oppression will look like in a future virtual police state where all religious practices will be banned. He also expressed concern over the ever-worsening situation of Christians in Nigeria and the lack of an effective response from the local government against Islamic terror.
