“Virtual March for Life” in Brazil: strengthening the fundamental values to face the pandemic
"Frente pela Vida", a movement that brings together realities from different sectors of Brazilian civil society, had called for a "Virtual March for Life" for the 9th of June. The civil society wanted to draw the attention of Brazilians to the strengthening of fundamental values, so that society is able to face the Coronavirus pandemic: life, health, solidarity, environmental protection, democracy, science and education.
The Brazilian Bishops’ Conference (CNBB) takes part in the initiative with a program entitled “Pandemic and Church: take care of yourself and save lives!” attended by Father Paulo Renato Campos, political advisor to the CNBB; Father Patriky Batista, executive secretary of the CNBB Campaigns and André Luiz de Oliveira, doctor, representative of the CNBB at the National Health Council.
At 4 pm there was the presentation of the six essential points contained in the document of the “Frente pela Vida”:
1. The right to life is the most relevant and inalienable good of the human person, without distinctions of any kind;
2. Prevention and control measures to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic must be established on a scientific basis and rigorously followed on the basis of a structured planning between the federal, state and municipal governments;
3. The Unified Health System – SUS is an essential tool for preserving life, ensuring, with equity, universal and integral access to health;
4. Solidarity, especially with the most vulnerable groups of the population, is a fundamental principle for a more just, sustainable and fraternal society;
5. It is essential that life on the planet preserves the environment and biodiversity, guaranteeing everyone an ecologically balanced and sustainable life;
6. Democracy and respect for the Constitution are fundamental to guarantee individual and social rights, as well as to guarantee dignified living conditions for all Brazilians.
