Islamist militants killed dozens of Christians in Burkina Faso in past weeks
Armed Islamic militants killed fifty eight people in attacks perpetrated in Northern Burkina Faso (Sanmatenga) in the last days of May. The attacks targeted humanitarian workers and even children.
A survivor speaking with a member of the UK based group Barnabus Fund mentioned that the attack in Sanmatenga province left six civilians and seven soldiers dead.
He also added that one of the men begged the attackers shouting “forgive, forgive, we are also followers of the prophet Muhammad.” One of the gunmen turned to the other attackers and would have said that “they have the same religion as us”. The attack then ended, and no one else was killed.
Last December, at least fourteen people were killed when gunmen stormed a Protestant church service in the town of Hantoukoura near the border with Niger. Last April, gunmen killed a Protestant pastor and five other Christians who were leaving a worship service in Silgadji.
