Murdered missionary’s wife arrested in connection with his death
Jackie Shroyer, the murdered missionary's wife was arrested in connection with Beau's death last week.
44-year-old Beau Shroyer moved to Lubango, Angola with his family to serve as a missionary in 2021. SIM USA, a North Carolina-based Evangelical organization supported them in their quest. According to a statement from Lakes Area Vineyard Church, they wanted to teach locals about Christianity and God’s love in a “remote bush village” that did not have any electricity.
Beau suffered a violent, brutal attack that cost his life on the 25th October. Details of his death have not been released, as the church has asked for privacy.
Before becoming a missionary, Beau had served as a pastor at his local church in Minnesota. He had a law enforcement background and worked for the Detroit Lakes Police Department in 2013. As a devoted missionary, he aided under-privileged youngsters to gain access to education; he also helped locals to cultivate their land. In one of his earlier videos, he highlighted how the land of his ministry had been attacked several times. He asked the government of Angola to hire more security, as crime has skyrocketed in the area.
Angola police have not released details about how his wife is connected to the incident. SIM USA has supported the Shroyer family to provide care for their five children and guarantee legal representation to Jackie.
Troy Easton, lead pastor of Lakes Area Vineyard Church released an announcement: “It’s been a pretty heavy and emotionally complicated week. The news of Beau’s death along with now the heart-breaking news of Jackie’s arrest in connection with his death has overwhelmed us with grief and speculation and confusion. I get that losing my friend this week, our friend and brother, to a senseless and vicious crime was already so painful, especially in light of the family that he left behind and the sacrifices that we know he already made to love and serve God but now that grief is compounded by news that is unthinkable. I’m sorry for all the unanswered questions and the confusion this creates for us, and I am just deeply sorry that this is what we need to walk through and face as a community right now.”
