France: Which pandemic? Abortion matters!

The Minister of Solidarity and Health, Olivier Véran, expressed his worries about "potential restrictions on the access to abortion" in France because of the coronavirus pandemic. A question on this topic was addressed to him on the 1st of April by the socialist senator and former Minister for Gender Equality, Laurence Rossignol.

Rossignol seems to be obsessed with this sensitive topic. She already pushed for extending the “right to abortion” in France by lengthening the legal deadline to kill an unborn child by two additional weeks (from 14 to 16 weeks).

“There is no doubt that the COVID-19 limits the right to abortion in our country,” admitted Olivier Véran. However, he decided to reassure radical feminist groups by adding that “continuous access to contraception and abortion would be maintained.”

It is worth emphasising that France has currently very little control over the spread of the coronavirus. Patients from Eastern France are transported by helicopters to Germany. In Paris, where there is a lack of places for intensive care, some people infected by the COVID-19 are even transported to the Western region of Brittany.

Latest data show that over 59,000 French citizens have been tested positive for COVID-19, and nearly 5,400 have already died from it.
