Tension continues to rise in the West African country since elections were held that would keep the country’s president Alpha Conde in power. A coalition of opposition and civil society groups, the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution, has been demonstrating against the referendum and called for further protests this week. As a result, there have been violent clashes in Guinea, some of which are affecting Christians and churches there.

Open Doors’ field reports a church deacon was killed by radical Muslim youth when he came out of his home to plead for them not to destroy his church, Oeuvre & Mission Baptist Church. Another believer who was guarding a church was killed while trying to run away from attackers. The gunmen also burned down his home. Jaennot Vert was overseeing construction work next to the church in the absence of the pastor when attackers struck.
