France: arson of church doors in Sète
The doors of the Notre-Dame-Souveraine-du-Monde church in Sète, in the Diocese of Montpellier in southern France, were set on fire on the 13th of March 2020.
According to eyewitnesses, two young people arrived with a can of gasoline and lit a fire before fleeing quickly. A group of people living in the neighborhood rapidly intervened to stop the flames. They managed to limit the damage. Firefighters did not have to intervene.
Father Gérard, former parish priest of Sète, came to see the doors of the church on Sunday morning March 15th. He called the arson attack an act of cowardice. A complaint will be filed with the local police.
