Playboy model arrested for being photographed nude while carrying a cross in Saint Peter’s Square
The Belgian Playboy model Marisa Papen and her photographer, Australian Jesse Walker were arrested in Rome for taking nude photos in St Peter’s Square.
In one photograph, she is seen dragging a wooden crucifix over a zebra crossing, in imitation of Jesus on his journey to Golgotha with Saint Peter’s Basilica appearing in the background of the offensive photo.
In another picture, Papen is sitting naked on a pile of Sacred Books in the same square. The pair were approached by police who, having requested their passports, were taken to a police station where they were questioned and detained. The model said she was changing her clothes when the Italian police arrived and found her naked. They were both released after being held in detention for ten hours.
Upsetting police is not new to Marisa Papen and her photographer. They had already been arrested in Egypt and Turkey for organising similar photo shoots that later caused controversy on the internet. Papen posed nude in the Temple of Karnak in Egypt, at the Wall of Lamentations in Israel and at the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul.
