More than 50 Christians massacred within a day

According to TRAC, a terrorism research group, the terrorist organization ISCAP announced the mass killings on social media. In just one day they killed more than 50 Christians during attacks on villages.

On January 15, the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP, Allied Democratic Forces) carried out attacks in Lubero, North Kivu, north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC), the organization announced and boasted about the massacres in a post on social media.

By the grace of God Almighty, the soldiers of the Caliphate attacked the village of Makoko in the Lubero region and killed 41 Christians [who] were stabbed with knives.”

In another post, they reported that in a similar attack of theirs on Masakuki village left 12 people dead and  16 more abducted. ISCAP commonly uses these kinds of attacks, but their intensity has increased in the past few weeks. Since Christmas 2024, in the provinces of North Kivu and Ituri alone, the number of victims of ISCAP attacks rose to 128 with the latest attacks.

ISCAP’s tactic of successive attacks on the same village exacerbates the psychological toll on residents. By revisiting recently targeted areas, the group ensures an ongoing state of fear and insecurity among survivors,

says a TRAC analysis. It further added that ISCAP repeatedly attacks Christian villages and exploits the absence of security forces in the region. According to the terrorism research organization, these types of consecutive attacks lead to higher casualties.
