Several people were injured after a car sped into the Christmas market area in Magdeburg, eastern Germany, on Friday, according to the local newspaper Volksstimme. The perpetrator was apprehended while attempting to turn around in the rented black SUV.
According to the report, the vehicle drove through barriers and ran over several people in the market area. Police responded with multiple vehicles, then closed off the city center and advised people to avoid the area. Ambulances and firefighters also arrived at the scene. Reports indicate that in addition to more than 60 injured, the incident also resulted in 5 fatalities.
