Another mass killing is carried out by Islamists in D.R. Congo

Islamist militants attacked mulitple villages in D.R. Congo. They murdered at least 72 people during the attacks.

The Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP, Allied Democratic Forces) again carried out a wide-scale attack on multiple villages in North Kivu province, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This is the second attack of such scale that was carried out by the ISCAP in a short time. The previous attack happened in early June this year and claimed more than 80 lives.

In the latest attacks, at least 72 people lost their lives at the hands of the Islamists. On July 17, the militants attacked Kazor village in Mamove district, killing 37 villagers. Kinos Katuho, the local civic leader, said that he alerted the authorities about the presence of Islamist militants in the area, but they failed to respond.

The next targets of ISCAP fighters were the villages of Katerain, Kota Okola, and Nzakiya in Mamove district as well. Here the militants beheaded 20 people, and two days later, the bodies of another 15 victims were found near to the villages.

Approximately 5,500 peoplehave been killed by ISCAP militants since 2017 in the DRC. The most frequently targeted provinces are Ituri and North Kivu. In these states there has been a state of emergency since May 2021.
