“Mary” begins streaming on Netflix on the 6th of December

Without God sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to Earth—where He willingly endured the cross, suffering, and dying on our behalf—we would have no hope or future. Christ’s love, grace, and ultimate sacrifice ensured that we would not be lost for all eternity.

There is no greater expression of love than what He demonstrated on the cross. However, before God could send His Son, specific events had to unfold, and key individuals needed to be positioned—most notably Mary, the mother of Jesus.

The birth of Jesus Christ is a profound miracle, the extraordinary story of the Messiah coming to save humanity from sin. Yet, one aspect of this story that can sometimes be overlooked is Mary’s vital role and the immense responsibility she bore as a young woman.

The opening scenes of the film Mary beautifully capture her perspective and emotions as she faced this life-altering, world-changing calling.“I don’t know why, but I was chosen for this,” she says in the trailer.

A rapid sequence of scenes introduces viewers to Mary’s life as a young woman and provides a glimpse of King Herod, portrayed by Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins.

The trailer also highlights Mary’s internal struggle and eventual acceptance of her role—marrying Joseph, a man she barely knew, and preparing to give birth to a child despite being a virgin. In one striking moment, her betrothed questions her faithfulness, and she responds with firm and truthful denial.
