Catholic priest murdered in robbery
The Togolese Catholic priest was murdered in the capital city of Cameroon. He was killed during a robbery when the two armed robbers shot him. His community is deeply saddened and mours the loss of their priest.
On October 7, Togolese “Fidei Donum” priest, Christophe Komla Badjougou, was killed during an armed robbery in the Cameroonian capital, Yaoundé. On that evening, Father Christophe was attacked by two armed men on a motorcycle in front of the gate of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) in the Mvolyé district.
Based on the surveillance camera footage, the police confirmed that Father Christophe was killed during a robbery. The priest arrived at the missionary house on a motorcycle; the robbers arrived soon after him.
“After passing the priest, they turned around and came to the gate where Father Christophe was standing. The images show an altercation between the victim and one of the attackers, who managed to take the priest’s bag. The perpetrator then fired twice in the air and then three shots at the priest, who collapsed on the ground,”
a local police spokesperson told the Cameroonian press. Archbishop Jean Mbarga, Archbishop of Yaoundé, released a statement, expressing his sadness about Father Christophe’s death and his condolences for his family, friends, and community.
“In these sad circumstances, the Archdiocese of Yaoundé expresses its sincere condolences to Father Christophe’s family, his friends and the faithful of the diocese of Yagoua. The Christian community is invited to pray for him so that he may find grace with God,”
Father Christophe was a formator and parish priest of the parish of St. Peter and Paul in Zouzoui and member of the “Association of Silent Workers of the Cross.” He was about to travel to Italy from Yaoundé for a one-year formation course before he was murdered.
