Christian man shot dead by Trump’s assailant whilst protecting his family

50-year-old Corey Comperatore, a devoted Christian, who attended church every Sunday, was shot dead whilst shielding his family from Donald Trump's assailant on Saturday.

Mr Comperatore, an affectionate father of two daughters and a former fire chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, was attending the Donald Trump rally when the assailant opened fire. He threw himself over his family to protect them from the bullets, but sadly, he paid with his own life.

Two other individuals were critically injured in the attack. Thankfully, they are both in stable condition.

Governor Josh Sapiro called him a hero: “Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community. And most especially, Corey loved his family. Corey was the very best of us. May his memory be a blessing. Corey was an avid supporter of the former president and was so excited to be there last night with him in the community. My message to all Pennsylvanians, my message to all Americans, is to be firm in your beliefs, to believe what you believe, to advocate for what you believe, and to be engaged in the political and civic process, but to always do so peacefully.”

Mr Corey’s daughter and wife expressed their deep grief over the tragedy: “He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us. What my precious girls had to witness is unforgivable.”

Rich Hill, the manager of Buffalo Township, also expressed his anguish over the incident: “Political violence is always unacceptable and should be condemned”.

Donald Trump has aided a GoFundMe page for the victims, created by Meredith O’Rourke, the national finance director for his 2024 election campaign, which has already raised over $3.6 million. A few other funding pages have been established, one of them focusing on Mr Comperatore’s daughters has raised over $840,000.
