Two Americans charged preaching in a hospital in India
Indian authorities imposed fines on two American citizens for allegedly breaching the terms of their tourist visas by engaging in preaching and conducting conversions, although their host contests this assertion.
According to the Superintendent of Police of Sonitpur district in Assam state, local media were informed that James Michael Flinchum, aged 73, and Matthew Jon Boone, aged 64, were apprehended at the Baptist Christian Hospital in Mission Chariali, Tezpur.
Their Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) permits granted Flinchum entry from October 2023 onwards and permitted multiple entries for Boone from December 2023. Their tourist visas allowed participation in “Recreation/Sight-Seeing” activities, which the Assam state police deemed unlawful.
The government accused them of participating in religious activities at various locations.
