Europe is on high alert due to Christmas terror plots

According to recent security reports, numerous Muslim suspects have been detained in France, Germany and Austria, for supposedly planning Christmas terror attacks.

French intelligence struck down on five Muslim men, aged 20-23, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, whilst rooting around Strasbourg Christmas market. The men had been under surveillance for criminal actions and connections with the Salafist movement, a cult of Sunni Islam linked to various Islamic terrorist groups. During a raid, the police found video footage, that had been filmed at the market, featuring one of the terrorists say: “And there we shoot”.

Gérald Darmanin, the French Interior Minister drew attention to a “very high level of terrorist threat” from Islamic assassins and urged all European countries to have “extreme vigilance” during the Christmas festivities. Madrid’s Christmas Masses have also been added to the high-risk target categories.

In Germany and Austria, the police captured several suspects reportedly linked to the Islamic State in Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K. Intelligence services identified St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna and Cologne Cathedral in Germany as high-risk targets, introducing increased security measures, including searches for explosives with sniffer dogs and screening visitors.
