French parish victim of malicious and threatening graffitis for a month

The latest incivility took place on the night of Thursday to Friday February 25. An inscription that questions Father Benoît, the parish priest of Saint-Bernadette and Sainte-Thérèse in Montpellier.

For almost a month, not a week has gone by without the churches of Sainte-Bernadette and Sainte-Thérèse, which represent the two most important parishes of Montpellier, being targeted by malicious acts.

In particular through a certain number of tags of all kinds, most relaying intifada and threatening messages. Like the one that Father Benoît has just discovered, this Friday, February 25 in the early morning, affixed to the wall of the Sainte-Bernadette church.

“The only church that illuminates is the one that burns,” warns its author. With the anarchist and antisocial acronym written in purple spray paint.

“It’s sad,” says Father Benoît, reached by telephone, who indicates that “a new complaint will be filed in the coming hours in view of these disturbing threats.”

And to reveal that the grotto dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, reconstructed and inaugurated in September 2019, was desecrated a fortnight three weeks ago. His altar was even vandalized.
