Rwandan man kills the priest who sheltered him in France

France

On Monday, the 9th of August, a Rwandan migrant killed a Catholic priest, who had provided accommodation for him in France for six months. The tragedy was revealed by Gérald Darmanin, interior minister of France, on his Twitter account.

According to the Franceinfo French radio, the body of Father Olivier Maire was found in a missionary house in Saint-Laurent-Sur-Sevre. A police source revealed that the sixty-year-old priest was murdered by a Rwandan man, whom he had sheltered for six months. According to another source, the murderer has already turned himself in to the police.

The probable murderer, a forty-year-old Emmanuel Abayisenga, had been under police supervision since July of last year, as the suspect of an arson attack against the Cathedral of Nantes. Many frescos were damaged alongside the famous organ, which had survived both the French revolution and the Second World War in the fire.

The Rwandan man had previously worked as a volunteer for the diocese. Later, he was threatened with deportation, but this was not possible until his police proceedings in the case of the arson attack had been completed.
