Twelve people killed in attack by suspected Fulani Herdsmen
Jihadist Fulani herdsmen are suspected to be behind the killing of twelve people in Kuru village of Jos South Local Council of Plateau State, reports ChannelsTV.
According to eyewitnesses, gunmen raided the community at 9pm on Sunday and began shooting sporadically. In addition to the 12 deceased, at least five residents were wounded and brought to a local hospital.
The attack is the latest of many perpetrated by Fulani Militia, the fourth deadliest terror group in the world which has surpassed Boko Haram as the greatest threat to Nigerian Christians.
“At least 1,500 Christians have already been killed in Nigeria during 2021,” said Mike Popeo, the Senior Counsel for Global Affairs at the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ). “Even more have been kidnapped and are either being held hostage or trafficked. The attacks are brutal. Armed radical Islamic groups arrive in a village during the night, kill the men, rape and murder the women, and kidnap the children. The Nigerian government thus far has sought to downplay the attacks, characterising them as conflicts between herders and farmers rather than as religiously motivated acts of terror.”
