Irish government lifts ban on Holy Mass after five months
Prime Minister Micheál Martin announced that as and from the 10th of May, the Irish government would lift some restrictions on public participation in church services.
The Irish have been deprived of physical participation in Holy Mass for five months. The last time the faithful could meet in churches under Covid restrictions was the 26th of December 2020. Since then, churches were only open for personal prayer, for weddings and funerals —with a limited number of participants.
However, the government’s decision does not mean that the churches are completely open. Major celebrations will still be banned such as First Communions or Confirmations; participation at weddings and funerals will be increased to fifty people.
