A church was burned to the ground in a French town

"The 16th-century church of Saint-Aubin in Romilly-la-Puthenaye, France, burned down," reports valeursactuelles.com. The church fire occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Local media reported that the frame and bell tower had collapsed, consumed by a fire that quickly spread to the church’s wooden structure.
“The priceless altar has burned down. This is a catastrophe,” said the mayor of Romilly-la-Puthenaye Jean-Bernard Juin.
The firefighters only managed to save a terracotta statuette from the 15th century and a few canvases that were in the sacristy – according to reports.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
