Many women and girls were released from Boko Haram, in an operation of the Nigerian army. Among them was a Chibok girl who was kidnapped seven years ago.

The Nigerian army carried out a series of operations in the forest of Sambisa and released more than a hundred people from Boko Haram. One of those freed, Hauwa Halima Maigana, is part of a group of  Chibok girls, kidnapped nearly seven years ago.

“A month earlier, the Nigerian troops bombarded the forest of Sambisa and the shelter of Boko Haram. During the so-called Tura Takaibango and Lafiya Dole operations, many civilians have been liberated. (…) The Chibok girl is one of those rescued after the seizure of the abductors’ hiding place”, said a leader of the army.

According to a source of the American Sahara Reporters, there are still other women in captivity. “They are many, and not only Chibok girls”, says the portal. The Chibok Parents Association secretary said some of the Chiboki girls managed to escape, but their precise number has not yet been verified.
