“Psychosocial suffering” will allow abortion up to the ninth month in France
French MPs adopted an amendment to the bioethics law underway in the Senate, introducing an additional reason entitling to legal abortion. It is "psychosocial suffering" that would allow an abortion until the ninth month of pregnancy.
On the occasion of the bioethics act, MPs adopted an amendment introducing an additional reason entitling mothers to legal abortion. It is “psychosocial suffering” that would allow abortion until the ninth month of pregnancy.
Alliance Vita Association (Alliance for Life) warned that such an unverifiable criterion actually “blows up the legal framework” around abortion, allowing it to be performed until the end of pregnancy.
“The situation of pregnant women facing suffering deserves public attention. But history shows that the concept of suffering, which is difficult to objectify, has been used as a legal catch,” the association said.
