More than one hundred people killed in two villages in Niger
On the 2nd of January, two villages were attacked in the western part of Niger. One hundred people died, another twenty-five were injured, many of whom had to be hospitalised.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack carried out by terrorists who arrived using approximately one hundred motorcycles.
To attack the two villages (seven kilometres apart), the attackers split into two groups. In one of the villages, Tchoma Bangou, seventy people were killed. In the other, Zaroumadareye, thirty people were killed. Another twenty-five people were wounded, some of whom were transferred to the Niamey and Ouallam hospitals.
The two villages are located about 120 kilometres north of the capital Niamey, in the Tillabéri region, on the border with Mali and Burkina Faso. This region known as the “three borders” has been regularly targeted for years by deadly attacks from jihadist groups.
