Seven priests threatened by Islamist extremists in France

Seven African priests were threatened by Islamist extremists in the department of Vaucluse, in France.

All the seven priests received anonymous letters, written in Arabic and French. The threatening letter contained the expression “Allah Akbar”. The priests all hail from the African continent.

Roger Rossin, the mayor of Les Républicains de Cairanne, where one of the parishes concerned is located stated on the 6th of December:

“People are shocked and furious. It is incredible to think that in this small village of about 1,000 inhabitants, we are threatened (…) The parish priest nevertheless represents a moral institution!”

An investigation is underway, and while waiting to learn more, the security of the parishes in the concerned towns and villages will be reinforced.
