Christian couple arrested in Somaliland
On the 21st of September, the Somalian police searched the house of a Christian couple, who had been reported for 'suspicious activity'. The police found Christian writings in the home of the family and arrested the parents who have three children.
During a press conference on the 5th of October, a colonel of the police confirmed the arrest of the couple and added that propagating the Christian religion is a crime in the country, and is punished with prison. Additionally, he encouraged the citizens to denounce their Christian acquaintances and relatives.
After the arrest of the couple, many Christian families fled the neighbourhood, to avoid persecution.
Even though Somaliland declared its independence in 1991, officially, it still belongs to Somalia, where Christians are discriminated against and persecuted.
