Mali: Missionary killed after years in captivity

Beatrice Stockli, an evangelical Swiss missionary, was killed in Mali some weeks ago. She had been working with women and children in Mali since the year 2000.
In 2016, she was taken captive by an Islamic extremist group that has run rampant in the country for many years. Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis of Switzerland said, “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of our fellow citizen.”
Her death was reported by Sophie Petronin, a French charity worker that was also abducted in 2016 but was recently released. In captivity, Petronin was forced to convert to the Islamic faith. According to the charity worker, the Swiss woman was executed when she refused to move to a new location about one month ago.
Petronin believes that Stokli did not convert to Islam at the moment of her death.
