“Ecological” organisation encourages couples not to have children
The One Planet—One Child organisation is running a poster campaign on the streets of Vancouver and two American states to discourage couples from having more than one child or none at all.
Billboards have recently appeared in Vancouver encouraging people to have no more than one child, or not at all. One Planet, One Child proclaims the campaign was launched to bring about a sustainable world population.
On its website, the group says their aim is “to raise awareness that overpopulation is the root cause of resource depletion, species extinctions, poverty and climate change.”
Posters were placed at public transport stops and other crowded places. They present photos of children and slogans like: “We chose one child!”, “We chose childless!”, “The most loving gift you can give your first child is to not have another”.
The idea resembles the Chinese “one-child policy” as it also aims at depopulation, albeit with different methods and – so far – voluntarily.
