The number of yearly abortions has never been so high in France
The number of abortions in 2019 in France reached its highest level in thirty years. As many as 232,200 so-called "Voluntary Termination of Pregnancy" (IVG), have been performed in 2019 alone. In other words, the number of unborn babies killed is slowly reaching a quarter of a million each year in this country.
Data on the number of abortions was provided by the Directorate for Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), which reports to the Ministries of Health, Economy and Finance. The report containing the data was released on the 24th of September.
The number of 232,200 abortions performed in 2019 gives the rate of 15,6 abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age. This only applies to metropolitan France, without its overseas territories.
Half of the abortions are performed until the 8th week of pregnancy. However, the number of abortions performed between the 12th and 14th week of a conceived child is increasing. This sad record may even be broken this year.
It is worth recalling that recently the statutory possibility of abortion up to nine months of pregnancy was introduced in the case of the so-called social depression.
