The faithful can return to the shrine of Fatima

The rector of this Portuguese place of worship announced on Monday that the faithful may return to the Shrine of Fatima from the 26th of May.

According to the authorities of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary, pilgrims’ admission to the museum sections will first be restored. On Saturday, Masses will be resumed with the participation of the faithful in Fatima. In the coming weeks, most services will be organised on the main square of the sanctuary, or inside the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, which is the largest temple in Portugal.

The condition for participation in services in Fatima will be to wear a face mask. Pilgrims will be able to take it off only when they receive Holy Communion.

The 13th of May was the first time ever that the shrine in Fatima celebrated the anniversary of the apparitions of 1917 without the participation of pilgrims. Although the Portuguese government allowed this event to be organised, the shrine’s authorities did not opt for mass participation of the faithful, explaining that they did not have the ability to meet sanitary and epidemiological requirements.
