Tristan Azbej: Hungary Helps Programme to contribute to the renovation of churches in Lesbos vandalised by migrants
Within the framework of the Hungary Helps Programme, the government will contribute thirty-thousand dollars towards the restoration of churches on the island of Lesbos that were vandalised by migrants.
Migrants currently living on the island of Lesbos have vandalised some churches in Greece, thus expressing their protest because the Greek authorities denied their entry into other European countries.
As a consequence of the attacks, many liturgical objects and instruments were seriously damaged.
On behalf of the Greek minority in Hungary, the Greek National Local Government issued an official request to the Prime Minister’s Office asking to support the renovation of the damaged churches.

According to the statement of the ministry, Hungary is resolute in promoting religious freedom and the protection of Christian culture. „We firmly believe that the solution is to take help where it is needed, instead of bringing problems here”, the statement says.
The donation will be handed over by Tristan Azbej, Minister of State for Helping Persecuted Christians and the Implementation of the Hungary Helps Programme and Miklós Soltész, Minister of State for Churches, Minorities and Civil Affairs through the Greek National Local Government of Hungary to recover the damages.
