Germany: an evangelical church vandalised in Berlin
On Wednesday the 25th of March, an evangelical church belonging to the EKD (Evangelical Church in Germany) was the subject of several atrocities in the Pankow district of Berlin. The man responsible for the occurrences has been arrested.
At around 1 p.m., a man entered the church in Alt-Karow Street and started to damage the interior. He then withdrew to the organ balcony and according to police reports kept shouting incomprehensibly. The attacker fought off the approaching officials with a wooden stick while continuing to wreak havoc with church furnishings. The man refused to calm down, and after additional support arrived, struck out at an officer who approached him with a protective shield.
The assailant was finally arrested and received medical treatment in a hospital. His motives remain unknown. Fortunately, none of the church staff suffered injuries during the incident.
