Mobile hospital to be deployed by Christian NGO to Syria

A Michigan-based Christian NGO, together with a charity, will deploy a mobile medical clinic to Syria's Idlib province where the war has entered its ninth year.

A Christian NGO, Partners Relief & Development partnering with a charity led by bestselling author, Glennon Doyle are to deploy a mobile medical clinic to Idlib province, the last opposition stronghold in Syria, where thousands of people are in grave danger.

‘Together Rising,’ a charity run by Doyle raised $66,505 to fund the “hospitainer” project, its commissioning and the necessary medical equipment.

This initial funding is sufficient to operate the clinic for three months, at the end of which, they will assess the developments based on how the partnership progresses.

The medical clinic is a converted, mobile semi-truck operating a full service mini-hospital destined to provide life-saving aid to the families fleeing Idlib.

According to Together Rising, the clinic will employ 43 Syrians as full-time medical professionals and staff, including displaced doctors and nurses who previously worked in hospitals and clinics across Syria, many of which have been destroyed or closed down as a result of the violence.

Partners Relief & Development still face administrational issues in order to obtain the approval of the Syrian Ministry of Health to set up the mobile hospital 20 kilometres south of the front line, Christian Post reported.

What makes the launch of the “Hospitainer’ project even more complex is the coronavirus pandemic. As Syria is affected by the virus, the mobile clinic is trying to include a virus testing service in the unit.
