France: arson attack in the Church of Meximieux

On Monday March 16, a group of people set fire to the press table at the end of the Saint-Apollinaire Collegiate Church in Meximieux (eastern France).

Two people who were walking near the church alerted the firemen who acted quickly. The mayor of the town also visited the site and later filed a complaint with the local police.

A big cleaning effort has been necessary. At first, the church remained open from 8:30 a.m. to 6p.m. for the faithful who wanted to pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament and the image of the Virgin Mary.

Since Wednesday  the 18th of  March, the church has been temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 epidemic.
