France: Criminals rob and desecrate a church in Mayenne
On the 4th March 2020, the church of Quelaines-Saint-Gault in Mayenne (northwestern France) was robbed and desecrated
During the break-in, the tabernacle was damaged and sacred hosts along with the ciborium that contained them were also stolen. At the “Mass of Reparation” that took place in the church on the following Saturday, local priest Luc Meyer addressed the crowd with bitter words:
“This event hurts Christians. We are here in a place where they meet in peace in order to pray together for themselves and those who are not present. It is not only our church but the social life that is impacted by this. This act has shaken our social trust,” he explained.
