Trump introduces girl born just before 22 weeks

At his State of the Union address on January 4, 2020, Donald Trump introduced a healthy two-year-old girl born just before 22 weeks, weighing less than a pound, as "one of the earliest premature babies to ever survive."

American President Donald Trump used the example of the young Ellie Schneider to urge the Congress to “finally ban the late-term abortion of babies.”

“Born at just 21 weeks and six days, and weighing less than a pound, Ellie Schneider was a born fighter. Through the skill of her doctors and the prayers of her parents, little Ellie kept on winning the battle of life. Today, Ellie is a strong, healthy two-year-old girl sitting with her mother, Robin,” said Trump in an emotional speech.

“That is why I’m also calling upon members of Congress here tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies. Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God,” Trum added.

Today, abortion is legal until 24 weeks in several European countries (Spain, UK, Netherlands,…) and might soon be extended to 18 weeks in Belgium. The story of Ellie Scheider should be seen as a warning signal for us.
