Norwegian Barnevernet continues to undermine families
The Norwegian Child Welfare Services (Barnevernet) are the public agencies responsible for child welfare in Norway. They consist of services in each municipality, which are aided and supervised by different governmental bodies at the state as well as the county level. From the over twenty cases against Norway pending before the European Court of Human Rights, all of these are associated with Barnavernet.
In sixteen cases, the ECHR already agreed to the accession of Ordo Iuris and the submission of the so-called “written position” which we have done”, says Jerzy Kwaśniewski, President of the Ordo Iuris Institute. We are waiting for the Court’s decision regarding the remaining cases, so that the professional voice of children and family life defenders can be heard there.
There is hope that the several-year campaign against Barnevernet will not only help Poles in Norway, but will also determine the direction of European case law in the field of family life protection”, says Jerzy Kwaśniewski, President of the Ordo Iuris Institute.
