Polish president wants “no more lies” about history
To commemorate the seventy fifht anniversary of the liberation of the German death camp of Auschwitz, President of Israel Reuwen Riwlin met with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Poland.
Polish President Andrzej Duda thanked Ruewen Riwlin for his visit and emphacized the trauma that the Holocaust that took place during World War II”.
” Today we want to give a hand to the Polish people, so that we can return to the path towards building a common future – said Reuwen Riwlin, inviting Andrzej Duda to visit Jerusalem.
“We call for stopping lies about history . It is very important to us, because it is also associated with the sense of Poles’ dignity, historical memory, and above all the memory of all Polish families, who also lost many of their relatives during World War II, whether in battle or murdered.”
The Polish President also referred to the celebrations that took place last week at Yad Vashem. Duda decided not to participate because he was not on the list of speakers like for instance Vladimir Putin.
“I understand that the ceremony was organized by the private foundation of Mr. Moshe Kantor, who is also a friend, connected by ties of acquaintance with Russian President Vladimir Putin.”
“As you know, there was a serious exchange of views on historical issues between the Polish authorities and representatives of Russia,” Duda explained.
Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that Poland is to be blamed for the outbreak of World War II.
