The Big Talk, a series of  videos made by BBC Teach, features children asking questions about sex, relationships and gender, and the answers they are given by “trusted” adults.

The Christian Institute, a nondenominational Christian charity supported by individuals and churches throughout the UK reported that in ‘Understanding Sexual and Gender Identities’, the children are told that gender is “who you are inside”, but that sex is whether you are born a boy or a girl.

When asked what the different gender identities are, a Relationships and Sex Education teacher said: “There are so many gender identities.

“So we know we’ve got male and female, but there are over 100, if not more, gender identities now.”

She added: “You’ve got some people who might call themselves gender queer, who are just like ‘I don’t really want to be anything in particular, I’m just going to be me.’”

While most of the “trusted adults” were teachers, one was trans activist Leo Lardie, who was born female but is now living as if she were a man.

The children did not look comfortable as she talked about her genitalia, and explained that the only way she could be happy was to “be true about who I was, and let other people in on this”.

The topic, being as absurd as disturbing to many have brought different reactions in the media. 

Telegraph columnist Celia Walden in her opinion piece titled “How dare the BBC teach children that there are 100 genders?” heavily criticised the video saying that beyond her horror

“at the propagation of misinformation and the upholding of this noxious nonsense by a corporation whose journalistic duty it is to deal not in fads, but facts, is the fear that we’ll make this new generation of children as self-obsessed as the supposed grown-ups wilfully warping their minds”.

Piers Morgan also made it clear on Good Morning Britain that he’s not a fan of the BBC’s list of 100 genders. 

Piers and co-host Susanna Reid spoke to journalist Benjamin Butterworth, who had no issue with the extensive list, and Nicole Gibson, a woman who was born male and transitioned, but wouldn’t label herself as transgender and thought the list was an issue.

Nicole, who was born male but always identified as female, said: “We’ve been male and female for 200,000 years.”

Piers, who said he had no issue with transgender people, that they still conformed to the notion of two genders, announced:

“I’m actually a two-spirit, neutrois, pan-gender penguin. How dare you tell me I can’t identify as that? How dare you offend me?”
