A Catholic church was vandalised and looted in southern France
On December 3, the Saint-Éloi church in Bordeaux was extensively damaged following a burglary and acts of vandalism, with total damages estimated at 10,000 euros.
Among the losses were a broken safe and damage to stained-glass windows located behind the high altar. In a prior incident in June, the church was defaced with graffiti during a feminist march in the Gironde region.
The thieves stole approximately 2,000 euros, primarily from the collection box. Father Grégory Lutz-Wiest, the parish priest, noted that the intruders systematically seized everything of value.
He expressed concern over the growing trend of attacks and desecrations targeting Catholic places of worship in France, stating, “It is getting worse and worse.”
Additionally, the church suffered vandalism during a left-wing demonstration in June. Protesters disrupted the site by overturning plates and cutlery intended for the winter soup kitchen and spray-painting the slogan “Death to Nationalists” on the church walls.
