The situation of Iranian Christian refugees in Georgia is further deteriorating

Iranian Christian Jalal Darzi is bracing for the worst after Georgian authorities denied his asylum application, highlighting a growing challenge faced by Iranian Christian converts seeking refuge from persecution.

Darzi’s claim was rejected following his second interview with Georgian officials, who determined he failed to provide sufficient proof of his Christian faith. He contends the interview focused on Orthodox Christianity, a tradition unfamiliar to him.

When he attempted to elaborate on his beliefs, he was reportedly silenced.

“The interviewer said: ‘When I have a question, you should answer.’ Many times, she cut me off,” Darzi told investigators in a recent report by prominent human rights organisations. “I said, ‘Let me talk!’ But she stopped me. I felt it was just a formality as if the decision had already been made before the interview.”
