Polish priest dies following an attack by a robber
On November 9, a Catholic priest in Poland passed away in the hospital from severe injuries sustained six days earlier in an assault at St. Albert’s parish by a 27-year-old man from Szczytno.
The suspect, who is now in custody, faces charges of attempted murder, with authorities indicating that the attack was motivated by robbery.
The victim, 72-year-old Father Lech Lachowicz, was brutally attacked on the morning of November 3 at his rectory in Szczytno. The assailant struck him multiple times in the head, resulting in a skull fracture, brain swelling, and a severe facial wound.
Father Lachowicz was hospitalized in critical condition from the outset. Following his arrest on Monday, the 27-year-old suspect has been detained and is awaiting a court decision on the charges.
Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda, President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, condemned the violent death of Father Lachowicz, calling for peace and forgivenes.
