The Satanic Temple opens a “religious” abortion clinic

The Satanic Temple (TST) has launched a second telehealth abortion facility, offering what it refers to as "religious abortion services" as part of a "destruction ritual." TST views the termination of a pregnancy as integral to this ritual.

Though its name may suggest otherwise, TST is not connected to the Church of Satan, founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s. TST is based in Salem, Massachusetts, and conducts two virtual satanic services each week.

In a press release shared with The Christian Post, TST announced the opening of its new 24/7 telehealth abortion clinic in Virginia, called “Right to Your Life Satanic Abortion Clinic.” The facility offers abortion-inducing medication for a fee, and TST claims it may assist with travel-related expenses.

According to a TST document, abortion is framed as a “destruction ritual,” which is seen as a protective rite. The ritual also involves reading or listening to stories of pro-choice advocates to “overcome any stigmas” surrounding abortion.

Erin Helian, executive director of TST, told The Christian Post that donations helped fund the Virginia clinic. While the group hasn’t collaborated with outside organizations for its telehealth services, it partners with the online pharmacy Honey Bee Health.
