A pro-life activist seeks to appeal her sentence for blockading abortion clinic
A pro-life activist sentenced to nearly four years in prison for blockading a New York City abortion clinic is seeking funds to appeal the decision.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Wednesday that Bevelyn Beatty Williams received a 41-month prison sentence for obstructing the entrance of a New York City abortion clinic over a two-day period in 2020.
This sentencing follows a jury verdict from five months ago in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, which found Williams guilty of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
The FACE Act, enacted three decades ago, imposes federal charges on anyone who “by force or threat of force or by physical obstruction, intentionally injures, intimidates, or interferes with or attempts to injure, intimidate, or interfere with any person” seeking or providing “reproductive health services.”
