Terrorist attack on a church in Burkina Faso
Terrorists killed 15 people during an attack against a Catholic church. The violence occurred during Sunday mass.
On February 25, terrorists attacked a Catholic church in northern Burkina Faso. They carried out the attack during Sunday mass. The attack left fifteen people dead and two wounded.
The attacked village, Essakane, is located in the border zone of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. The region has a history of terrorist attacks. Many atrocities have already happened, including attacks and kidnappings of both civilians and members of the clergy.
In the Sahel region, where Burkina Faso is located, violent terrorist activities have been on the rise since 2011. For almost a decade now, jihadist attacks have been more frequent in Burkina Faso. The instability of the government and the general insecurity leave the unprotected population open to such attacks.
