Nicaraguan authorities banned a traditionnal Marian procession
The traditional Marian procession on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary will not take place in the capital of Nicaragua due to a ban issued by the authorities. This is another manifestation of harassment by Daniel Ortega's government.
In Managua, the Immaculate Conception is a very important celebration for which the faithful prepare with a special novena. The procession is the culmination of the celebration and always gathers crowds of people.
In August, processions in honor of Our Lady of Mercy were banned in the diocese of León.
However, the locals ignored the authorities at that time, and despite the threat of police intervention, the image of Mary traditionally walked through the streets of the city.
